Symphoniker Hamburg / Truls Mørk / Renaud Capuçon

Classical Music
Laeiszhalle (Großer Saal), Hamburg

Renaud Capuçon, one of the outstanding violinists of our time and celebrated for his captivating musicality and subtle expressiveness, returns to the symphony orchestra – not only as a soloist, but also, for the first time with the Laeiszhalle Orchestra, as a conductor. He brings with him a program that ranges from elegant French lightness to intimate, reflective solo moments to a late Romantic, densely orchestral finale.

The concert opens with Gabriel Fauré’s cheerful »Masques et bergamasques«, which shine with great lightness and elegance. Robert Schumann’s emotionally intense cello concerto is tailor-made for cellist Truls Mørks and his masterful ability to make even the finest nuances of the cello audible.

A particular highlight of this VielHarmonie concert is the rediscovery of Charlotte Sohy: her work »Thème varié« for violin and orchestra—composed by a woman who was highly regarded by Fauré and her colleagues in her day—is a refreshing testament to female creativity in a male-dominated (musical) world. The concert program concludes with the four symphonic interludes from Richard Strauss’ opera »Intermezzo«, in which the composer deals with marriage in a self-confidently ironic and musically extremely colorful way.

A truly »harmonious« program that tells the story of men and women on a musical level and features two guest artists whose virtuosity and expressiveness bring every detail to life.
