Most of the over two million Mongolians still lead a nomadic life today, in harmony and rhythm with nature and together with the »five jewels« of the Mongolian steppe: horses, camels, yaks, sheep and goats. Their singing practice is also deeply rooted in the natural environment: the human voice imitates animal sounds and traces the landscapes in melodies. Two traditional forms of singing from Mongolia can be heard in this concert given by the Tengerton Ensemble and the Erdenetsetseg Khenmedekh Trio: epic songs and the overtone singing »Khöömii«, in which a single voice sings two notes simultaneously – a low one and a very high, spherical one above it.
