Symphoniker Hamburg / Chamber Concert

Classical Music
Laeiszhalle (Kleiner Saal), Hamburg

Under the title »String Quartet Meets Piano« different worlds of chamber music come together. Members of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra perform in string quartet formations together with pianist Ye-eun Park, presenting a program that combines tradition and the present.

The first half of the concert features three works for an unusual string quartet ensemble with double bass. In the world premiere of a new work by Nikolai Brücher, a long-time collaborator of the symphony orchestra, violin, viola, cello, and double bass engage in a contemporary dialogue. Purcell's three fantasies will also be performed in an arrangement for this instrumentation. These works will be paired with Rossini's Third Sonata for Strings.

In the second part of the evening, the soundscape expands to include a piano quintet: Ralph Vaughan Williams' Piano Quintet in C minor combines romantic expressiveness with sweeping melodic lines and dense harmonies. The piano joins the string quartet as an equal partner, opening up a new dimension of chamber music color. The result is a concert evening that combines different ensembles and styles, impressively showcasing the diversity of chamber music from a total of four eras.
